Kaieteur News – The life of two persons in Berbice ended tragically Tuesday night following an accident along the Hampshire Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead are: Dinesh “Brandon” Ramsammy, a 24-year-old Mechanic of 1236 Kilcoy/Chesney Housing Scheme and Munir Khan, 60, of lot 59 Albion, Corentyne, Berbice. Information provided by the police detailed that the accident occurred on Tuesday night around 23:30 hrs and involved motorcar PRR 7985 driven by Ramsammy and an electric scooter driven by Khan.
Police said Ramsammy was heading east along the northern drive lane at a fast rate when he lost control and slammed into the electric scooter that was heading west. Khan, the driver of the scooter was flung meters away and into a drain. The car with Ramsammy and the other three passengers flipped several times before turning turtle some distance away. The driver and electric bike rider were picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. The injured were also taken to the said hospital by police and public-spirited citizens. Both Ramsammy and Khan were pronounced dead on arrival, while the injured were seen and examined by doctors on duty, treated and referred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
Meanwhile, wife of Ramsammy, Vashti Amarnauth disclosed that she shares two children with Ramsammy. She said he had taken her with the children to clinic Tuesday afternoon and dropped them home. He then told her that he was heading out to weld his car. After a few hours passed, she called him around 21:00 hrs and Ramsammy told her that he was going to Skeldon to purchase car parts. “When me call he back around 10:00 he seh he deh ah drink with dem boys and then me call he back later but the funeral parlour answer the phone and seh he na mek it”, she said. Wife of Munir Khan, Naeema Khan, relayed that her husband was on his way home from work when he was struck. She said he did everything for her and worked during the day and worked as a watchman some nights. His death is a significant blow to her and the family she said.
