Dem Boys Seh…
Kaieteur News – De government recently said that it might bring back a train service pon de East Coast of Demerara (ECD). De government selling pipe dreams, once again. Dem nah gat no feasibility study fuh point nor any study fuh indicate that it practical fuh have a train service.
But dat is how we does roll in de newest petro-state. Forget about all dem silly studies! Who needs feasibility studies when you can have blind enthusiasm?
It’s truly remarkable how de government overlooked some practical considerations. De ECD gat plenty small, small villages and people does live in each of dem. Between Georgetown and Mahaica deh gat about 50 villages.
Imagine de train gat fuh stop fuh put off and tek in passengers at each one of dese villages. After all de reason it coming back is fuh ease de transportation woes. With all dem stops, it gan be faster fuh ride a bicycle to reach Mahaica than to travel with de train. But perhaps de government gat a better plan.
Dem should have thought about light rails into de major housing schemes on de East Bank – at Diamond/ Grove – and at Tuschen/ Parfaite Harmony – on de West Coast. Dat would have saved them billions of dollars from not having to build dem new four-lane highways and bypass roads dem building.
But is dreaming does pass fuh planning in Guyana. Or, more likely, the government just making things up as it goes long, relying on wishful thinking and political grandstanding. Why plan when acting on brainwaves is a more exciting adventure?
But let us not forget de magical allure of trains. Who needs efficient transportation systems when you can have a choo-choo train? Tourists will surely flock from far and wide to experience the wonders of a train that crawls at a snail’s pace and has to stop every ten seconds.
So Guyanese sit back and wait fuh de ECD train. It gan be a ghost train, empty of passengers and running on invisible tracks. Just like de idea which gave rise to de announcement.
Talk half. Leff half!
