– Sharma Solomon tells Lindeners at victory rally
Kaieteur News – In an effort to secure resources for human and community development in the municipality of Linden, the recently elected municipal candidates of the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in Linden have said that tough demands will be made from central government to provide these resources.
At a ‘Thank You’, rally on Sunday on Wismar, Linden, Constituency One candidate Sharma Solomon who has been touted for Mayor, told the large gathering of supporters that they should not fear rumours that the government will not support Linden because of not voting in their favour.
He said the new council will make its demands and will hold the government accountable for resources to execute its duties correctly. Solomon told residents that consultations will be held with residents on how the annual $18 million subvention should be spent as well as other types of funding and when the projects are not delivered, the residents must look to the government for answers. “We are going to demand from them what they want and they will have to give us everything they ask for.” He also asked central government officials to involve the municipal and regional leaders while engaging the communities for better oversight and good governance. The Government he said, will always be relevant to the development of the town and if support is not given, it will be “tough times for the government and not for the people”
Solomon told the supporters that the council will remain committed to them and will consult with them throughout the journey of building the communities ‘brick by brick’. “Our principal focus will be human development, you the people, those elderly people, those less fortunate and public servants,” Solomon said in his address. He said focus will also be given on ensuring community and part-time workers are secured in their employment. “We will walk with you and we will serve you and ensure you are protected,” Solomon reiterated. The APNU won all eight constituencies and six of the Proportional Representation (PR) seats while the People’s Progressive Party won two PR seats.
Campaign manager for PPP, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill said in a recent interview that the government will continue to support the municipality.
