Duo sentenced to 35 months imprisonment for robbery under arms

Kaieteur News – Two persons were on Monday sentenced to 35 months imprisonment for Robbery Under Arms committed on a 55-year-old man on June 14, 2023.

The duo, Balram Latchman called ‘Chris’ of lot 13A Bath Settlement, WCB and Marcus Marcel called ‘Buckman’, of Estate Road Experiment Bath Settlement, WCB were arrested on June 15 and June 16 respectively and charged on Monday.

Both Latchman and Marcel appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh where the charge laid under Section 222(c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01 was read to them. The men were not required to plead.

However, the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied and both men pleaded guilty and were each sentenced to 35 months imprisonment.

Reports are that at about 23:00h on the day in question, the men armed with cutlasses robbed the 55-year-old man at Lot 196 Experiment Bath Settlement, WCD.
