Kaieteur News – Do you have an upcoming event, and looking for something to wear or a place to get that special gift item, then ‘Fashion Diva’ has got you covered.
‘Fashion Diva’ which was started in November 2020, is owned by the talented Pooja Balkaran, who operates the business along with her boyfriend Khemchand Omadath and her sister Britney Balkaran.
Twenty-two-year-old Balkaranin in a recent interview with this magazine said that what inspired her to bring about this venture was her showing herself that she is capable of doing anything while at the same time unlocking her fullest potential.
“I always feel that I can do more than one job so I decided to build my own business,” she said.
She added that the decision to start her own business was also encouraged by her boyfriend who saw that she has the potential to do more.
“So two years ago, my boyfriend was actually the one to see the potential in me and said hey you need to leave your job and start your own business. At first, I hesitated, but I eventually I left and start working for myself. I won’t say it was easy, it was tough, but eventually everything started to fall into place,” she shared.
Since taking that bold step, Balkaran said that business has been amazing. She noted that her business offers various services such as, online purchasing, buying and selling women’s clothing, jewellery, men’s clothing, purses, hats, belts, children clothing, accessories and home décor. She added that they also do customized frames and customized gifts items and much more.
Being in the business industry for more than two years now, the young woman mentioned that the support so far from her family and friends has been tremendous as they always encourage and motivate her.
“And I have the sweetest set of customers; they really supported me throughout the past years,” she stated.
When asked about her experience so far and the challenges that she may have faced, Balkaran briefly shared that one challenge was having to deliver items at various locations in a day. Though it has been a challenge, she never looked at it as something she could not overcome.
She added that soon she would be able to provide services in a more spacious environment as she is about to have her own location, upstairs of Chicken and Burger Delight located at the Vreed-en-Hoop junction.
In moving forward with her operations, Balkaran said her goal is to “build myself and my business so that every one of my customers can shop at an affordable price.”
As Balkaran continues to grow her business she is of the belief that young entrepreneurs act as role models to other young people. “We act as role models for youth to strive for independence instead of working in traditional stagnant roles,” she said.
Also she related that small business owners provide exceptional customer service as to compete in the market and develop strong customer relationships.
When asked what more she thinks can be done in our country to help small businesses grow, our featured entrepreneur suggested that the relevant authorities should take more steps in help reducing crime in our society.
According to her, it is very discouraging to persons wanting to start their own business and security costs to a small business can be quite substantial.
