Kaieteur News – A soldier was on Friday remanded to prison for allegedly killing one of his colleagues at the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Camp Stephenson base.
The accused was identified as Private Brian Morrison, of Lot 841 of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (WCD). Morrison is accused of shooting Tevon Daymon with an AK -47 rifle last Monday.
On Friday, he appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond / Grove Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder.
He is scheduled to return to court on July 31, 2023.
According to reports, Morrison allegedly discharged some 27 bullets at Daymon during a fight at Camp Stephenson, Timerhi. Daymon had allegedly lashed Morrison to his head with a magazine from his rifle causing severe injuries.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF), stated that the 25-year-old suspect was armed with a AK rifle and 30 matching rounds and had discharged 27 rounds in Daymon’s direction.
Daymon was struck and was subsequently rushed to the Diamond Hospital where he later died.
