Kaieteur News – De Opposition want de government to make public how de monies allocated fuh de gas-to-shore project, will be properly spent. Dem table a motion to dis effect. It is fuh de National Assembly fuh debate de motion and to pass it.
De Speaker is nat a Judge who gan instruct de government to do anything. Even if de National Assembly pass de motion, de Speaker cannot compel de government fuh comply with de motion. Nuff motion pass wah nah comply with by de government. We therefore gat to dis nonsense about de Speaker having a say in de matter.
What de Speaker gat a say about is whether de matter can be debated as matter of definite, public and urgent importance. If de Opposition hoping to have de business of de National Assembly suspended to debate on dis matter, dem gan be disappointed. Dis motion will not qualify as a matter of definite, public and urgent attention. It might meet de test of being definite and of public importance but not necessarily urgent.
Fuh de matter to be urgent, de matter must have arisen suddenly and be of clear emergency. De spending on de gas-to-shore-project has not arisen suddenly and is nat a clear emergency. As such, de motion will have to run its normal course and wait its turn subject to be placed on de Order Paper. But de business of de National Assembly is nat likely to be suspended just fuh debate dis motion.
De problem with de gas-to-shore project is nat de spending. Is de project itself because dem nah gat no feasibility study dat is specific to de project. Therefore, instead of bothering about de spending, de motion should have been about whether de project mek sense or not.
Talk half. Leff half!
