Kaieteur News – It was during a trip to the United States of America (USA), that the idea of opening a waffle house in Guyana came to Daniel Beckles. He first got his brother, David Beckles onboard with the idea, and when they returned to Guyana – the idea of the waffle house was fully conceptualized and executed.
Years later, the Beckles brothers have been serving up North American style waffles along with barbequed meats and other Guyanese favorites, through their business: ‘Dave & Danny’s Waffle House Diner & Sports Bar.’
Some things on the ‘Dave & Danny’s Waffle House Diner & Sports Bar’ menu are: waffles, wings & iced tea, waffles, chicken tenders & iced tea, wings & fries, waffle burger, waffles, barbeque chicken, fries & iced tea, ice-cream in waffle bowl, waffle cone, waffle cheesecake and waffles & ice-cream sundaes.
There are six different types of waffles: chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream, blueberry, and strawberry. Customers are also given the option to add on eggs, sausage, turkey bacon, cheese or toppings (white chocolate, gummy bears, or fruit).
Other items available are: barbeque & fries, wings & fries, fish & plantain/fries, servings of chicken tenders, servings of wings and beverages like coffee, hot chocolate, juice, milkshakes, iced teas and smoothies. A new addition to the menu is fried chicken combos, (legs, thighs, wings and breasts.)
Customers are not only offered great food but a great atmosphere in the aesthetically pleasing diner and sports bar. The experience is one to remember.
Dave & Danny’s Waffle House Diner and Sports Bar’s main location is at Lot 245 Sheriff Street, Georgetown and there is a second location in Movietowne, Liliendaal, Georgetown. The Diner is open Mondays to Thursdays from 08:00hours to 23:00hours – on Fridays and Saturdays from 08:00hours to 1 AM and on Sundays from 08:00hours to 23:00hours.
While speaking with Daniel Beckles, he shared that the business was first called Barbeque Boss and Waffle Boss but it was later morphed into ‘Dave and Danny’s Waffle House Diner and Sports Bar’.
‘Dave and Danny’s Waffle House Diner & Sports Bar’ was birthed out of need to provide quality service, wanting to bring a North American twist and flavor to the Guyanese restaurant and dining landscape. I think we would have achieved such, being the first and only Waffle House here in Guyana to offer a full American Diner menu,” Daniel said.
He added, “And it has taken off since. It’s quite unique and iconic what we have here at Dave and Danny’s. And the most unique part of it is that this is being done by two young Afro- Guyanese youth, who are facing the regular challenges of the working class, and are able to rise to the occasion of wanting to be different and persevere-we are still persevering. We intend to be around for a long time and to continuously work to raise the standards and quality of the products and services we provide.”
