Kaieteur News – Wakenaam Cricket Committee and several businessmen on the island of Wakenaam have made a monetary donation to national female U19 all-rounder Cyanna Retemiah.
Retemiah has been shortlisted in a squad of 22 for a training camp and trial matches in Trinidad from which the team for the ICC Women’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, South Africa 2023 will be selected.
A squad will also be selected to play an away series against India in November as part of the preparation plans for the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup.
This team is a historical one, as it is the first-ever West Indies Under-19 Women’s team.
Secretary of WCC Nazeer Mohamed, in handing over the cash wished Retemiah all the best and encouraged her to remain discipline and work hard to make the final squad for World Cup in South Africa.
Retemiah, who plays for Noitgedacht Sports Club in Wakenaam, thanked the committee and businessmen for their support and promised to do her best.
Apart from cricket, she also participates in cycling and captured the national schools cycling champion girl title for a number of years.
