Dear Editor,
Mark Benschop’s passing comment in a missive (Sept 24) that Freddie’s readership is only a few hundred is grossly inaccurate. Freddie is the most read columnist in Guyana and the diaspora.
I had my encounters with Freddie over a long period some years ago, that did not and does not compromise my professionalism or facts on readership. As I found in several surveys from the early 2000s onwards on the media and readership of the four national papers, Freddie has consistently been the most read columnist. KN is the most sold (bought) and read newspaper. He was commended for his role in defense of democracy following the then government’s defeat in the no confidence motion of December 21, 2018. His readership grew since the days of the attempted fraud of the March 2020 elections. He remains very popular among readers although they may not be supportive of positions he takes.
Yours truly,
Vishnu Bisram
