Kaieteur News – Detectives have been able to locate a car that was stolen from a woman in Berbice, Region Six, in Essequibo, Region Two.
The woman had accused her boyfriend of hijacking the car from her on Sunday last at Blairmont, Berbice.
Kaieteur News had reported on August 17, last that the owner was tipped off that her stolen car was spotted on the Essequibo Coast.
Two days later, police were able to locate the vehicle and even nabbed her ex-boyfriend, the alleged carjacker.
On Saturday, Region Six police confirmed that the man identified as a taxi driver by the name of Dinesh Persaud was charged and remanded to prison for the offence.
On Friday, the taxi driver was hauled before the Weldaad Magistrate Court and slapped with the charge of simple larceny of a Toyota Fielder wagon valued at $5 million.
The charge states that he committed the act on Diane Latchman, 33 of No.3 beach dam, WCB.
Persaud pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison until August 31, 2022.
Latchman, who once shared a relationship with Persaud, said that her stolen car was found on Thursday last by police at a bar in Essequibo, Region 2. Persaud was subsequently arrested after police located him in a nearby shop.

Latchman had alleged that Persaud had attacked her at a location in Bath and began by assaulting her before snatching her car keys.
Latchman said that she followed and entered the car with him. He drove off with her but when they arrived at Blairmont, he allegedly pulled the car over, assaulted her some more and kicked her out before driving away.
