Dear Editor,
Once more there is talk of the value of investment in the sugar industry – this time in relation to “five new tilling machines valued at $100M” – intended “to spur greater production in the fields” (as distinct from productivity) – dependent on the varieties most conducive to Rose Hall Estate, Berbice. So that it will be simplistic to announce (to those who know better included) that machines themselves would make a significant contribution to the promised estate agricultural development, without competent supervision and management at the respective levels. In short, human resources are a priority ingredient of productivity, wherever.
The latter are even more critical so far as the factory operations are concerned. There is not yet any prediction about reconciling the timing of the tillage operations with the resurgence of the Rose Hall Estate Factory. What a promise to be fulfilled!
