Dear Editor
I wish to commend the government, for having the foresight to lift the COVID-19 restrictions so that we could have had a ball for Phagwah.
I also commend the President for keeping that big celebration where the rich and famous and the mighty and powerful wined and dined at the ordinary tax payers’ expense – tax payers who barely eke out a living and do their PAYE and will never be invited to such a function.
I also want to commend the government for keeping that big celebration at the stadium. The celebration was so huge that persons were walking over each other.
COVID suddenly came to an end and it was time for mirth and merriment. I saw the broad smiles on the faces of all of those who were there. I am very confident that those smiles will take all of those persons to the next Phagwah, notwithstanding the rising prices for food, vegetables, cooking gas, rice and everything else. Notwithstanding the low prices of paddy and the struggles of everyday.
I don’t think this will matter. Those broad smiles that I saw at the stadium will counter any inflation, any shortage of money. These people are so happy, they are just waiting for Phagwah next year.
Sincerely,
Lalta Ramchand
