Kaieteur News – A porter was on Wednesday killed after a pile of posts fell on him at Ampa Bay Trail, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), Region Three.The deceased has been identified as fifty-eight-year-old Lyton Hendricks of Pomeroon River.
According to police reports, the fatal incident occurred on Wednesday morning around 07:30Hrs. The police reported that Reaz Khan, 24, of Butcher Street Parika E.B.E was the driver of an unregistered motor truck and trailer that was transporting the wallaba posts that fell on Hendricks, the porter, causing his death.It was reported that as the truck was proceeding west on Ampa Bay Trail with the trailer attached, Hendricks was sitting atop the posts when the wheels on the right side of the trailer went into a hole causing it to swing right. The trailer toppled with Hendricks falling and being pinned under the pile of posts.The porter was removed from under the posts by public-spirited persons and was taken to Ampa Bay Boat landing. He was then transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. Hendricks’ body is being stored at Eziekel Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.
Khan is in police custody pending further investigation.
