Kaieteur News – With the COVID-19 pandemic, came a lot of challenges and adjustments for business owners. But for some like emerging entrepreneurs, an opportunity was presented for them to make a positive impact in their communities and the country at large. Whether they were driven by a passion or dream, they have proven to themselves that all is not lost during this time.Joining the many entrepreneurs, who launched businesses and brands during this COVID-19 pandemic, is a young man by the name of Daniel Barrington Hall, the owner of a customising business called ‘Custom Designs’. Hall, who grew up in a single parent household, shared that from as long as he can remember he always had a liking for things graphic art. “I took inspiration from my classmates within the art department of my secondary school,” he stated. Since then, his interest grew which prompted him to launch his own business. In December 2020, he officially made his services available to the wider public. This, he said, has put him in the position he is in today – meeting his clients’ needs and earning an income to support his family. Though his support base has been small, he commented that it is amazing that persons support what he does, and for this, he expresses his gratitude. Hall, who is currently a student at the Government Technical Institute (GTI) studying civil engineering, said that there are challenges in what he does. Balancing the two – his business and studies – have not always been quite easy to manage.
It has put pressure on the operation of his business. “The challenge still exists and I’m currently working to create a schedule so I can give more time to the business than I currently do. I also plan to add a person to help when I’m not available,” he explained. Another challenge he also faces, is the pandemic. Due to this, not many people are utilising his services, he added. Noting that there is a long way to go with his brand, Hall told this publication that his future plan is to expand, which would not only bring about opportunities for himself but for others whom he plans to collaborate with. “I plan to expand into the graphic design market, to work with other small business and companies,” the young man mentioned during his interview. Our featured entrepreneur is of the belief that young business owners play an influential role to young aspiring persons in business. With what they do, they inspire others, he noted. “I believe young entrepreneurs show other young persons, that it is possible to create a source of income that isn’t main stream,” Hall asserted. He mentioned that more needs to be done, to recognise young entrepreneurs in our society. According to him, more initiatives to bring awareness to small businesses can be of great assistance to many. Notably, organisations, like the Small Business Bureau can play a key part in the young business arena.
