GAPLF Seniors
By Zaheer Mohamed
Kaieteur News – Months of rigid training melted down to few moments as athletes displayed the fruits of the labour, hence decided their own faith when the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) held its senior national RAW championships on Sunday at St. Stanislaus College.
Hardat Tarson, Vijay Rahim and Fazim Abdool of Hardcore Barbell club of Rosignol, West Berbice, Arjun Roopnarine, Nadina Taharally and Angel Chappelle produced exciting performances as 37 records were shattered.
In what was arguably a decisive assessment of aggressive strength, Tarson copped the best male lifter prize, while Rahim won the 74kg Men’s Open category and Abdool was successful in the 120kg Men’s Open EQ segment. Roopnarine won the 105kg Men’s Master 1 Raw, Taharally carted off the 76kg Women’s Open Raw while promising Chapelle won the 52kg Women’s Sb-Jr Raw division.
Among other standouts were Shelly Ann Gomes, Keisha Abrigo, Romeo Hunter, Shammah Noel, Romario Gonsalves, Marlon Wilson, Faraud Mohamed and Marley Vyphuis.
