Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – As Guyanese, who witnessed the debacle at the last election, we are disappointed with the focus on the academic credentials of the GECOM CEO.
What we experienced was not that the GECOM staff were not suitably qualified for the positions. We saw that the people who were supposed to do a proper job, lacked honesty, morality and independence of mind; the most important qualities needed for our election process. The problem to be solved at GECOM is not one of finding the highest academic achievers. It is to put in place, people, who will respect our wishes and deliver them as the laws set out. In addition to selecting ‘fit for purpose’ personnel, complementary system changes are needed to deliver transparent and fair results. Country first. Focus must be on solving the actual electoral problems we face.
