Dear Editor,
Whosoever advised President Irfaan Ali to make a broadcast to the nation at 7:30AM on the wages issue did a disservice to the public. The President’s media advisor has lost it. At that time in the morning people are hustling to get to work, some are just waking up whilst some are asleep.
The majority of Guyanese are not ready for such “hard news” as rejection of a wage increase so early in the morning.
President Ali should have been addressing the nation at 7:30 PM when most Guyanese are home, eating dinner and watching TV.
The President blamed the APNU-AFC coalition for a messed-up economy and the presence of the COVID pandemic.
But in the short time it has been in power the PPP/C has done very well in managing the economy.
The PPP/C government needs to bend a bit and make the wage increase tax free.
Respectfully,
Sultan Mohamed
