Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – I thought a few quick takes could sum up today’s Guyana. Assurances to all: no offense meant.
Noted commentator, Christopher Ram, came out of the shadows lengthening around him to say that the PPP/C is not interested in ‘good governance’ for the oil sector. I am afraid to say this: he is showing signs of a braincell or few in need of rehabilitation. Unlike Mr. Ram, I am yet to discern any area, any sector, any place, any space, where the PPP/C has been about ‘clean governance.’ Come to think of it, there is insurmountable difficulty for PPP/C leaders in understanding what is involved with, and are the principled obligations inseparably attached to this abstraction (are you reading dear Clemmie) called clean governance. And just to show that I haven’t lost my own marbles also, the exact same thing can be said of the PNC. I think the ‘C’ at the end of both of these monster parties’ names is a synonym for CORRUPTION. There is nothing clean about that; trust me on this, sir. My advice to Mr. Christopher Ram is to cease imagining himself to be St. Christopher (of Roman Catholic illustriousness) and thinking he can carry Guyana on his shoulders.
Then, they all came riding into town to the sound of trumpets and much muted fanfare (is there such a thing?). I call them the Magnificent Seven vying for the coveted PNC leadership position. I am still looking for Steve McQueen and Yul Brynner among them. Yeah, but there is a St. Joseph and Richard the Lion Hearted and Norton (not Ken) who fancies himself the PNC heavyweight champion, who I caution that the other man has an iron jaw; stony is he. Naturally, there is a Solomon, for what would Guyana be without one such endearing figure. I hope that he is not the kind of parental figure, who would chop this country in half. Unlike the biblical baby, I remind him that Guyana belongs to all of us. As for Aunty Volda, she ain’t no Kathy Jurado; pardon me, Halle B. Sorry, I got my pictures mixed up, and here I am talking about St. Christopher skipping a beat.
I know that the Christmas Season has started, but the real fireworks and festivities will begin on Saturday, December 11 at that crucial Congress. Trust me on this one, too. Look, let’s get real around here: there is no other one in this country to trust, is there? I dare anyone to pick up that gauntlet hurled down before all.
Editor, I am serious, for this place is worse than Sodom and Gomorrah. It ain’t gat 10 citizens worthy of God saving it. So, the Almighty One is destroying it, brick by brick. Guess what he did: he give Guyana oil. God get wee fuh duh he dutty wuk fuh he. At times, he is a real wise guy. He leff wee fuh kill out waan anadder.
Sincerely,
GHK Lall
