Dear Editor,
One notes the reported negative reaction to a public sector organisation appearing to be led by a ‘Corporate Management Team’ comprised of 10 ‘Executive Directors’, and the Chief Executive Officer. The executive portfolios are seen to include the following:
– Corporate Services
– Human Resources and Development
– Finance
– Project Implementation
– Operations
– Business Development
– Information and Communication Technology
– Procurement
– Commercial Services and Customer Relations
– Hinterland Services
To all appearances the GWI is composed of 10 Departments, each of which is headed by an Executive Director, who happens to be male. Complainants would be justified in enquiring the respective periodicities of their attachment to GWI. At the same time, it is worth bearing in mind that there are comparable directorates in other organisations.
In the meantime, from this distance, it is not absolutely certain whether this Corporate Management Team equates with the Board of GWI. For one recalls that about five years ago, on the resignation of the substantive Chairman, Ms. Patricia Chase-Greene, Mayor of Georgetown, then a member, was appointed to act as Chairman of the Board.
Amongst other membership of the Board were the following: Carol Joseph, Savitri Singh-Sharma and Samantha Fedee (from the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs). What appears uncertain five years on is whether there exists a comparable Board structure? It should not be difficult for the Ministry concerned to clarify this unnecessary puzzle.
E.B. John
