“Young entrepreneurs play a very interesting role in society because entrepreneurship gives young people an opportunity to work on their own skills and interests and in the process, create their own employment.”

Kaieteur News – At a tender age, Tamara Prince was already being exposed to the business arena, as she often used to sell packed snacks during her early school days. It all happened after been given the courage through a hardworking and influential person in her life – her mother. Today, our featured young entrepreneur is one who is diligently following in her mother’s footsteps. In an interview with Kaieteur News, Prince revealed that it was the keen attention she paid to her mother as she operated her business that spurred her interest.
“Growing up in a single parent family and watching my mother run her own business would have given me the courage to be independent, so I started my own business venture in primary school,” she said. During those days, Prince recalled that she used to sell finger foods and packed snacks to her classmates during recreation time and it continued up until she graduated from secondary school. Not being able to seek a job after graduating, Prince explained that she invested her time by joining a financial literacy and small business training programme. The programme, Prince shared, was another stepping stone to realising her dream as it furnished her with the knowledge and guidance that she needed to operate a business. Her hard work and dedication translated into her becoming the founder and owner of ‘Beauty Plus Brains,’ an online business that was launched last year September. It features a wide variety of beauty lines such as clothing, make up and accessories just to name a few. As an emerging entrepreneur, this young woman has already been making an impact through the unique services she offers and the hard work she puts into her business just to meet her customers’ needs. “I try my very best to always introduce new items and service to the online market so customers can always have a new feeling every time they shop with us,” she related. But all of this would not have been achievable without the immense support of her family and friends, who she described as the driving force and motivation behind it all. She revealed too that the only challenge she has faced thus far is that her products are sometimes delayed due to flights being cancelled. Some customers, as a result, would become impatient, she noted.
As for the pandemic, instead of it being another challenge, for her it was a “blessing in disguise” by being a booster to her business since persons would shop more online. When asked what she hopes to achieve in the near future, she disclosed that her aim is to always ensure that her customers are satisfied by giving them excellent, hassle-free services and quality products at acceptable prices. She noted too that she hopes to upgrade her services so that customers can shop from anywhere in the country via their phones and have their packages delivered to them without leaving the comfort of their homes. Prince is also of the view that “young entrepreneurs play a very interesting role in society because entrepreneurship gives young people an opportunity to work on their own skills and interests and in the process, create their own employment.” Moreover, she added, in order to boost small businesses in Guyana, the government could provide opportunities for not just education directed towards building entrepreneurial skills, but also by implementing plans and policies that can strengthen the entrepreneurial system in the country.
