More constructive for President Ali to engage another constitutional office holder, Opposition Leader Harmon

Kaieteur News – If President, Irfaan Ali, could have spoken with Leader of the Opposition, Joe Harmon, last Wednesday evening to resolve the impasse in Linden where healthcare workers and those seeking care, who have not had the COVID-19 vaccine, were prevented from entering their place of work and accessing care, then it shows his unconstitutional plea to be publicly recognised by Harmon before engagement is a matter of political convenience.
There remain other issues of national importance that require engagement between the constitutional office holders, such as confirming the appointments of the Chancellor and Chief Justice, reviewing the oil contracts, and giving meaning to Article 13 in the Constitution that establishes a political system for Guyana on “inclusionary democracy.” The nation’s business and people’s welfare continue to be stymied not because of the Constitution, but by men who have this desire to fulfill some emotional need that the Constitution does not allow for.
It is time this nonsense stops. The citizens of this nation continue to be held hostage in a political game that not only lacks maturity, but is undermining the development and peaceful co-existence of all Guyanese. For as big men squabble, foreign capital and others with self-serving interest are plundering the nation’s resources and exploiting the citizens/workers.
