Kaieteur News – Mindful that Match Officiating and Match Officials are fundamental to the growth and development of game, President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Wayne Forde has informed that they would be pulling out all the stops to ensure that solid officials are prepared to serve the game.

GFF President, Wayne Forde during his remarks to the Referees on Saturday last at the GFF national Training Centre.
Speaking at the opening of a Concacaf supported Referees Training Programme that was facilitated by Guyanese Concacaf Elite Referees Assessor, Diane Ferreira-James who is also Head of Refereeing in the Bahamas, Forde shared that the Federation’s Executive sat and reviewed from a panoramic perspective, decisions that they would have taken up to March 2020 which had a bearing on actions that would be taken going forward.
Speaking to the best of the best, Referees drawn from around Guyana, Forde further noted that they are more conscious of the required strategic foundations that are needed, going forward.
“Unless we have quality and quantity of competent, dedicated and committed officials to serve the game, we will not be able to grow it at the pace that we want to grow it.”
With this in mind, Forde announced that, after discussion with the Head of Refereeing in Guyana, Dion Inniss, the GFF would be pursuing the establishment of an Elite Referees Academy.
“And that is where we will, through a very transparent process identify the most talented, the most gifted, the most committed. Like any other discipline.”
He alluded to the fact that, there are always those persons who are a bit more gifted than others based on what they would have been blessed with from the Almighty. These individuals would be able to further enhance their skills and art with investment from the National body to help them reach their true potential.
“When we say their true potential, then they’ll be able to navigate, through their own efforts, discipline and consistency of the highest caliber of officiating, not just in our confederation but probably in the wider world.”
The officials were encouraged to focus on being the best they can be in service to the game whilst protecting its integrity.
