Dear Editor,
There is much ranting and raving about the Government’s “because we care” cash grant. We must be able to think logically when such initiatives are introduced; some allow loyalty to political parties to cloud their judgment. This initiative has moved some to tears of joy as reported on social media by media houses. We know during this pandemic how cost of living has surged and many lost jobs. The initiative whether funded by taxpayers or will be repaid by tax payers is a good one, could have been even better if all students (public and private school) could have benefitted. This because we care grant should have extended to our teachers in both the public and private sectors. And yes while we are on the topic of grants and initiatives, the public servants do deserve a chunk of the cheese too! All in all, kudos to the Government but please be more inclusive and be “more caring” with your initiatives.
Yours faithfully
Tanya Niamatali
