Kaieteur News – Sherrane Hollingsworth, 56, of Fifth Street, Meten-meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara was on Saturday afternoon killed after being struck down by a motor lorry on the De Kendren Public Road, West Coast Demerara. The accident occurred at approximately 14:30 hrs while the deceased was attempting to cross the road. The driver of the motor lorry is identified as Keith Peters, 60, of Ruimzeight Gardens, West Coast Demerara.
Kaieteur News understands that motor lorry #GZZ 4439 was proceeding west along the southern side of the De Kendren Public Road, when the pedestrian who was standing along the northern side of the road after observing traffic, walked from north to south across the road in the path of the motor lorry.
The motor lorry collided with her, causing her to fall to the road surface where she received severe injuries about her body.
She was picked up and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital in an unconscious state. Kaieteur News understands that she was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced her dead on arrival.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and he was not found to be above the legal limit.
Investigations are still ongoing into the matter but the driver remains in custody.
