Kaieteur News – Nine months after he was brutally slain in the No.3 Village backdam, West Coast Berbice, ranks from the Major Crimes Unit arrested three persons on Wednesday for the murder of teenager, Haresh Singh. This publication was able to confirm with Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, that police have been able to acquire a confession statement.
On September 9, 2020, during the riotous protest actions that took place on the West Coast of Berbice over the vicious murders of cousins Joel and Isaiah Henry in the Cotton Tree backdam, Singh, 17, was found unconscious in the No.3 backdam. He was on his way to take water to his relatives who were working further down the backdam and was doing so on his motorcycle but was attacked. He was killed and his motorcycle was burnt. Singh’s grandfather was among the several who were initially arrested, questioned and released for the murders of the Henry boys. Relatives, who had spoken with Kaieteur News via telephone, had stated that after the grandfather was arrested, they were targeted by persons connected to the Henry boys, and their home was stoned.
His sister had told this publication, that shortly after her brother left for the backdam she noticed smoke coming from the said location and upon further checks, her brother’s battered unconscious body and burnt motorcycle were found. He was picked up and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died shortly after.
A post mortem examination that was conducted on the body of Singh, revealed that he died from brain haemorrhage caused by blunt trauma to the head, compounded by compression injuries to the neck. That post mortem was conducted by government pathologist Nehaul Singh. The teenager was laid to rest on September 23, 2020.
Earlier this year, the FBI, US law enforcement, was assisting the Guyana Police Force with its investigation into the murders of the Henry boys and Singh. Three persons have also since been charged and remanded to prison for the murder of the Henry boys.
