DEAR EDITOR,
Years ago, one of Hitler’s greatest allies in the Holocaust was the indifference of the world. Today, one of the oil companies’ greatest allies in robbing the Guyanese citizenry of its oil is the indifference of the people of Guyana.
Editor, Hitler had an all-powerful ally without whom he could have never succeeded. His ally was the world that chose to remain silent as Germany kept testing the limits of the universal tolerance for its evil actions. Likewise, the oil companies have an all-powerful ally without whom they could never succeed in Guyana. Their ally is a Guyanese population that chooses to remain silent as the oil companies keep taking out our oil. The opposite of love, it’s been pointed out, is not hate. It is indifference. And if one can charitably say that the whole world didn’t hate the Jews at the time of the Holocaust, most of the nations were, at the very least, strongly and strangely indifferent.
Yours sincerely,
Tony from Mahaicony
