Kaieteur News – Popular yoga instructor, Christina Basil – who operates under the brand DatYogaChick – opened her yoga lifestyle shop yesterday.
According to Basil, DatYogaShop is designed to cater for a healthy life and lifestyle, while promoting local products such as granola mixes, coconut oil, coconut cups, bamboo straws, homemade soaps and scrubs, and candles.
“The idea for the shop,” Basil told Kaieteur News, “was a long-time desire ever since I became a yoga instructor. I was never sold on the yoga accessories as I thought it was elitist and a commericalised gimmick, but as I grew serious in my practice, I recognised their importance.”
Basil said that after she realised that it was difficult for her students to get quality yoga items locally, she started to bring in the items for them; and when some of them asked for her tips on healthy eating, she would share what she knew.
“I’m not a nutritionist or anything,” Basil said, “but I do enjoy relatively healthy foods and am knowledgeable when it comes to preparing healthy food.”
This eventually grew into the idea for the yoga shop – located at 39 Anira Street – which sells everything, Basil says, from yoga mats to tiny packets of granola.
“The shop is very personal,” she told this paper, “and I trust and believe in all of my products and want only quality items for my clients.”
