DEAR EDITOR,
As a resident of Charlotte Street, Georgetown, I am concerned that the Bourda Cemetery has not been cleaned and cleared since 2019 by the Georgetown Mayor and City Councillors (M&CC). Located in the heart of Georgetown – on Regent Street, between Bourda Street and Orange Walk, the Bourda Cemetery has become an eyesore. It is left unattended as a dumpsite for market waste and a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other parasites, which can have deleterious effects on the health and well-being of residents.
While I acknowledge the financial constraints of the M&CC, the city’s administration must explain why the Cemetery has not been cleaned in approximately two years, and when and how it intends to fully deliver on its mandate to maintain public spaces in the city.
The residents of Bourda deserve better. Georgetown deserves better.
Yours faithfully,
Kobe Smith, LLB
