Vic Persaud was an honourable man
DEAR EDITOR,
Mr. Eshwar ‘Vic’ Persaud who died recently was one of three pioneers in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The other two were Mr. Errol Lee and Mr. C ‘Pryor’ Jones. They were recruited from other Government agencies shortly after Independence (November 1967 and January 1968) and were the first sent overseas to deal with the financial administration of some of Guyana’s Missions. Errol to London, Vic to Washington and Pryor to New York. Such, however, were their skills, attitudes and capability that subsequently they were appointed to senior positions in the Consular and/Diplomatic fields.
Vic possessed several endearing qualities. For me, however, what was preeminent was his civility. It is regrettable that this quality was not more widely emulated in society.
Simply put, Vic was an honourable man and decent human being.
