DEAR EDITOR,
It is reported sand is being removed from a popular beach in Berbice by a contractor to fulfill the demand of an internationally funded project (“Contractor accused of taking sand from Number 63 Beach for project,” GT May 13).
From indications, it appears the accusations are true, since the contractor has promised to return the sand and has repaired a section of the damaged area. It boggles the mind how this could have happened without collusion.
Further, the claim by the engineer, who lives along the beach entrance is ludicrous and could be seen as not having the best interests of the region in mind and raises the question of complicity.
Sincerely
Shamshun Mohamed
