DEAR EDITOR,
With great gusto, the Honourable Minister of Labour, in addressing the TUC sponsored event to celebrate our tradition May Day, last Saturday May 1, 2021 at Critchlow Labour College informed the assembly gathering that since taking office, his Ministry and the PPP Government has recruited a number of Ministry of Labour Officers, including Inspectors, etc.
A common theme of all those who address the gathering was for transparency and accountability at all levels.
This promise for accountability and transparency was not questioned by the Hon. Minister and assured us that the Government had no difficulty with transparency and accountability.
In those circumstances, I ask the Honourable Minister to respond publicly to the following:-
1] Were all these vacancies filled by his Ministry on the Fixed Establishment?
2] Were funds allocated for the payment of all the new employees?
3] If those persons, recently recruited were catered for in the Fixed
Establishment? And if so, did they come through the Public Service Commission?
4] If not, how many persons were recruited to function at the several levels, he
mentioned on Saturday, not appointed by the Public Service Commission?
5] If there were such persons, could he supply names, ages and qualifications of those
persons so recruited.
6] What salaries/wages those persons you claimed were recruited after August 2020 receive?
7] Were their salaries and benefits consistent with the norm in the rest of the Public
Sector?
Dear Editor, many of us have been taught to take seriously, statements made by Ministry of the Government and this letter seeks its full disclosure based on the above questions.
Eric Moseley, MS
