Kaieteur News – Days after the lifeless body of a 21-month-old baby was found in a drain, his 18-year-old mother was yesterday remanded to prison, charged for his murder.
The defendant, Martha Miguel, of Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo, made her first court appearance in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate, Zameena Ali-Seepaul.
She was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on April 10, 2021, at Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo, she murdered Ekron Miguel, her son.
Kaieteur News had reported that Miguel told investigators that around 19:00 hrs. last Saturday, her son was hungry so she placed him at the side of the road and went to a friend’s home looking for food.
While at the friend’s home, Miguel was questioned about the whereabouts of her son, shortly after she decided to take off, but was caught. The police were called in and the teen later revealed the location of her son, where he was discovered dead in a drain. The woman was arrested, placed in custody and subsequently charged with murder. She is slated to return to court on June 1, 2021.
