Kaieteur News – A resident of One Mile Wismar, Linden, is now counting millions of dollars in losses after the house in which he resided was destroyed by fire of unknown origin on Easter Monday. The entire interior of the house was engulfed and nothing was saved from the blaze.
Rudolph Wills, the occupant of the home, said he secured it and went to a neighbour’s yard, about 30 metres away, when he saw smoke emanating from the north-western side of the house and then in a matter of seconds, he saw fire blazing.
Initially, members of the community tried to extinguish the flames manually but were unsuccessful. Shortly after, a Guyana Fire Service truck came and fully extinguished the fire before it destroyed the exterior of the property but it was too late to save anything inside the structure. A saddened Wills told Kaieteur News that he lived at the property his entire life and was the sole caretaker since it belongs to his mother Agnes Wills, who resides overseas.
He estimated his losses to be around $25M since none of the household appliances and furniture were saved. He said the property had no previous electrical issue and when he left, everything was safe. Investigation is in progress.
