$100,000 bail for ex-cop slapped with fraud charge

Kaieteur News – A former policeman, who allegedly obtained money under false pretense, yesterday made his first court appearance and was placed on $100,000 bail.
The defendant, Paul Watson, of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, appeared in the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.
It is alleged that during the month of February 2021, Watson collected $420, 000 under the pretense that he was in a position to obtain a firearm license for an individual.
Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva is representing Watson. Principal Magistrate Latchman placed the defendant on $100,000 bail and the matter was adjourned to April 27, 2021, for disclosure of statements.
Kaieteur News had reported that Watson was previously charged for a matter of similar nature. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is urging persons who may have been defrauded by Watson under similar circumstances to report the matter to the nearest police station.
