Herstelling man shot and robbed at betting shop

Kaieteur News – A Herstelling man, was on Wednesday afternoon, shot and robbed while he was at a betting shop on Robb Street, Lacytown, Georgetown.
The victim has been identified as Terry Persaud, 60, of Herstelling Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara. According to a police report, Persaud was robbed of $4M and during the robbery, he was shot to his right upper thigh.
The incident reportedly happened at All Seasons Horse Racing and Sports Betting, around 15:00 hrs. Persaud was allegedly shot and robbed by an identifiable male, who is not yet arrested. It is reported that Persaud was at the shop placing bets, when the lone gunman approached him and told him to hand over his haversack, which contained the cash.
The police report further stated that Persaud refused and the bandit whipped out a handgun from his pants waist and discharged a round, which struck Persaud to his right upper thigh. The bandit then used the opportunity to relieve Persaud of the bag before making good his escape on a black motorcycle without registration number that was parked on Robb Street.
The matter was reported and Persaud was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he is presently receiving medical attention. The investigation into the alleged robbery under arms is ongoing.
