Kaieteur News – The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) held an online Mashramani tournament on Tuesday last with some exciting results.
In the senior section, Irshad Mohamed was victorious with Blitz Champion Davion Mars second and Gwendolyn Corlette third from a field of ten competitors that included Murphy Bagot (4th), Steve Leung (5th), Sherlyta Campayne (6th), Rai Sharma (7th), Rashad Hussain (8th) and Shane Perez (9th).
In the junior section of 45 competitors from ages 8 to 19 years-old, Ricardo Narine of Queen’s College emerging as the winner with his schoolmate Alec Lumeilino finishing second and St. Stanislaus College’s Keron Sadiford third.
The tournament was staged on International Chess Federation (FIDE) approved Turnello chess platform in a 9 round event.
The best female junior went to Adia Alphonso of Queen’s College while commendable performances were from under 12s Omar Sharrif and Anya Lall.
There was a total cash prize of $50,000 from the GCF to be shared amongst winners of the event.
