Kaieteur News – Sponsors continue to roll in for the first round of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) Drag race championship with the latest being Auto Sales and Spare Parts retailer, Trans Pacific, which has readily thrown its support behind the event set for February 28 at the South Dakota Circuit’s Drag Strip.
At Trans Pacific Auto Sales, Lusignan Office, proprietor Krishna Ramsewack handed over his sponsorship cheque to GMRSC’s representative, Balram Ramdeo.
Ramdeo, who is also Ramsewack’s mechanic, thanked his client on behalf of the GMR&SC for his generous contribution.
While being a patron, Ramsewack will be looking to prove his machine’s power when he takes to the rehabilitated quarter-mile launch pad in his souped-up Toyota Alteeza.
It is the aim of Team Trans Pacific that their Alteeza , which is usually piloted by Rameez Mohamed, will be able to break the Alteeza drag record after the latest modifications to the machine.
The executive committee is moving apace with preparations for the highly anticipated event which has been approved by the National Covid-19 Task Force and since there has not been any drag racing since 2019, efforts are being doubled to ensure an almost perfect meet.
According to the GMR&SC, everyday competitors are confirming their participation and a packed grid with cars from every class is expected but more importantly, it is expected that the quarter-mile record will be reset a few times with all eyes on the garages of Team Mohamed’s, S&D Performance (Shawn Persaud) and Balram Auto Mechanics.
Fans should not be too worried with not being able to witness the action live and direct since plans are afoot in having the event streamed live.
Other sponsors of the event so far include Mohamed’s Enterprise, Secure Innovations & Concepts Inc., Prem’s Electrical, KFC Guyana, E-Networks, Motor Trend Service Center, Wind Jammer International Hotel, Cyril’s Taxi, A&R Jiwanram Printery, B.M. Soat Auto Sales, Trans Pacific Auto Sale, Unicom United Commodities, MMD Hollow Blocks & Pavers, KGM Security, Ready Mix Concrete, Homeline Furnishing, Imran Auto Works and West Coast Customs Washbay.
