Mohabir, Boele shine as GT beat W/ Dem at Everest
Nandu, Dindyal bowl E/ Bank to win over E/ Coast
Georgetown and East Bank notched up contrasting wins when the opening round of the four-team Demerara U-19 Inter Association 50-over cricket tournament commenced on Monday at Everest in the City and Enmore on the East Coast of Demerara.
Alvin Mohair’s unbeaten 72 and an incisive spell which produced 3-9 from Marlon Boele, powered Georgetown to a 101-run victory over West Demerara at Everest, while East Bank where spearhead by National youth players Movindra Dindyal and Canadian based Matthew Nandu who spun East Bank to a five wicket victory against host East Coast at Enmore.At Everest, Georgetown elected to bat and reached 167-6, off their allotted 34 overs in the rain affected game caused by overnight showers and a wet out field.
Mohabir top scored with a well-constructed 72 not out, Dwain Dick supported with 36, while Jaden Campbell (19) and Georgetown based Berbician Aaron Beharry (14) chipped in with the bat.
Opening bowler Jeffrey Blair took 2- 40 for West Demerara who were dismantled for 68 off 24.4 overs as only Andre Seepersaud (15) and Vishal Persaud (14) reached double figures as Boele was supported by Bryon Bowen who had 2- 24.At Enmore, East Bank scored 161-8 off 50 overs with Yeudistir Persaud scoring 44 decorated by three fours and along with Nandu, who contributed 40, shared a in half-century opening stand.
National U-19 left-hander Sachin Singh contributed 27, while Orlando Giddings made 16 as Chitram Balgobin had the best figures of the round bagging 4-17 from five overs and was supported by Trevon Charles who claimed 2-32.
East Coast, in a thrilling run-chase, were bowled for 156 off the last ball of the pulsating contest with Andre Samaroo top scoring with 26, while Romel Datterdeen and Alexandra Persaud made 23 each. Dindyal and Nandu were backed up by Bissu who took 2-32.
In the second round, East Coast face Georgetown at Enmore, while East Bank will take on West Demerara at Everest today. Both matches will start at 09:30hrs.
