Head of the GFF, Wayne Forde (fourth from right front row), take a photo-OP with representatives from some of the MAs.
Head of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Wayne Forde and his General Secretary, Ian Alves, both labeled yesterday’s Ordinary Congress as, “Productive and successful.”
The Ordinary Congress was hosted at the Pegasus hotel with strict COVID-19 regulations and one of the motions that was passed included an amendment to the GFF’s constitution that will allow the body to host their congress virtually going forward.
Forde, during the post Congress press brief, shared with the sports media that 2021 will see major emphasis being placed on infrastructure and operations of tournaments. Meanwhile, major investment is also intended for procurement of footballs, kits, and tools.
The president highlighted that the GFF will be paying more attention to the operations of the Member Associations (MA) and Affiliates.
The MAs and Affiliates are set to benefit from the MFAB (Members Financial Assistance Programme) that will see a maximum of $50,000 going to them each month for operational costs while further assistance will be rendered for the running of tournaments.
The GFF’s agenda for 2021 includes the hosting of under-15, under-17, u-20, senior men’s and female tournaments in each MA.
Forde revealed that, “Focus will be on having all the MAs play their respective tournaments during one window,” with an intent to have all the competitive football packaged as one brand.
From a US$500,000 grant for women’s development from FIFA, congress approved US$100,000 for the construction of two dressing rooms and surfacing at grounds in Ann’s Grove on the East Coast of Demerara and in New Amsterdam in Berbice.
In order to help the MAs and Affiliates be more efficient in their operations, the GFF has utilised the MFAB to fashion each of them with Lenovo laptop computers.
