Dec 05, 2020 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
With less than 27 days left in the year, 2020, the Guyana United Artists (GUA) wishes to thank the Editors of Kaieteur News and Stabroek News for the coverage given to our exclusive Exhibition “From Cuffy, Bechu to Walter Rodney” a prelude on the occasion of our 50th Republic Anniversary, on Main Street Georgetown, between January 23rd – 27th and our letters to the Editors, including the most recent seeking support for some of our Senior Artists who need urgent medical treatment.
Two exceptional Guyanese responded to our appeal, met and interacted with the artists. Both did not want their identities disclosed, as their support came from their hearts and not for publicity. Are there anymore kindhearted and generous Guyanese out there?
Unfortunately, the Event scheduled for the Square of the Revolution which was both a fundraising exercise and a display of Artworks that deal with the burning issues of sensitizing Guyanese on the prevention of COVID-19 and the need for National Reconciliation has been cancelled to a later date as permission for the use of the Square of the Revolution has not been granted by the COVID-19 task force.
On the other hand minibus drivers and conductors are telling commuters that things have gone back to normal and are filling their buses to full capacity. For over three weeks pictures were posted on FB and nothing is being done to prevent what can only result in more deaths and the spread of the deadly Coronavirus. Already 151 persons have died and over 5000 persons have tested positive, we can only hope that the Authorities that are entrusted with the lives of our people would urgently address the issue that has already gone out of hand.
There will be lots of empty chairs at the table this Christmas, a time when families get together. There will be much sadness and mourning of those who died during the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic. Cherished memories, we have all suffered, experienced the pain, the agony in some way or the other.
Let this season of goodwill bring love and peace into our hearts and blessings into our homes.
Stay Alert! Stay Safe! God Bless Guyana and all of our people.
Yours Faithfully,
Desmond Ali (General Secretary Guyana United Artists)

(Kaieteur News) – There was a time when things were used as they were intended. A fork for eating and a bed for sleeping. (Kaieteur News) – I rarely talk about what comes out of the White House, the Dept. of Justice, and the US, in general. Indeed, President Trump has done that well with the American brand, savaged it so much, made it into a football for the world. A man of sorrows, he is. But what of his...Freedom of speech is our core value at Kaieteur News.
