– denies role in gruesome killing of cousins
The suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of Winston Roberston, a father of three from Cotton Tree Village, West Berbice, was captured by police right into the backdam area.Ricardo Mitchell was on the run since the 11th August, 2020.
According to the police, the suspect was in a house in the back of the Cotton Tree Village when the police first arrived. However, he attempted to flee but was caught shortly after in the cane fields. He hails from the same area.
Initial reports by this publication back in early August had detailed that the suspect and his wife were engaged in an intense argument about her alleged romantic involvement with someone else.
That argument reportedly turned physical, prompting the woman to seek refuge at a friend’s home. Robertson, according to reports, was at the house when the woman arrived.
Mitchell got word that his wife was at the house and ventured over to the location. It is alleged that Mitchell became enraged and shot Robertson because he (Robertson) was engaged in a conversation with his (Mitchell’s) wife.
Mitchell then proceeded to beat his wife with the very gun, which he used to shoot Robertson. The woman sustained lacerations about her body and was hospitalized at the Fort Wellington Hospital. Mitchell then escaped with Robertson succumbing to his injuries.
Police had issued a wanted bulletin for the suspect shortly after.
Kaieteur News understands that Mitchell was also questioned in relation to the deaths of Isaiah and Joel Henry but he has since denied any involvement in the crime.
The teenaged cousins were killed and dumped weeks ago, sparking protests, other killings occurred and the blocking of the West Berbice road for days.
The case remains unsolved.
