DEAR EDITOR,
Having watch every game in CPL 2020, I am convinced that the Guyana Amazon Warriors will never win that tournament, if Omar Khan continues to be the manager. Never in the history of any sporting team you will find a manager being retained for eight consecutive years without winning one trophy. And I say this because we never put together a balance team when we buy players during the draft and this is where Omar Khan comes in. We need a new manager to do just that if we hope to ever win the CPL.
No wonder Trinidad has won CPL four times. They have a balance team with quality players. And that’s another area we are lacking. We do not have too many quality players. Except for Pooran, Hetmyer, Tahir and to a lesser extent Taylor, we have too many young and inexperienced players. As for Taylor, one thing was clear, he is not a 20/20 player. He bats too slowly, with a strike rate of below 100 and he puts too much pressure on the other batsmen. Hemraj, Rutherford and even King failed miserably. Why was Bramble not given more opportunities? It was so glaring that we needed more quality 20/20 batsmen in that team. As for our bowling, it was not bad, it is just that our batsmen were not putting up good scores for our bowlers to defend.
This is a call to the owner of the franchise Mr. Bobby Ramroop to fire the manager and coach of the Guyana Amazon Warriors and get people who know 20/20 cricket to buy experienced and quality 20/20 players, so that we can win the CPL next year.
Thank You.
Yours faithfully,
Imtiaz Baccus
