EU to give €400M for fair access to COVID vaccines

(TeleTrader News) – The European Commission announced on Monday that it will contribute €400 million in guarantees to support the COVAX programme for equitable access to affordable COVID-19 vaccines. The funds will go towards “purchasing future vaccines to the benefit of low and middle income countries,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (pictured).
The EU stated that the detailed terms and conditions of its participation and contribution will be specified in the weeks to come. “Team Europe is ready to put its expertise and resources at work within COVAX to accelerate and scale-up development and manufacturing of a global supply of vaccines for citizens across the world, in poor and rich countries,” the Commission added.
