DEAR EDITOR,
With regards to your news report and letters, I wish to add my voice. What message is the government sending with these appointments? The country is very displeased with several Cabinet and political appointees. People are disheartened with some selections especially of the political appointments of the man who gave away oil blocks and the other one who abandoned us and ran away to Rome. I feel the rage on social media and hear anger on the phone from friends and family and the disappointment from neighbours. These are not from APNU supporters. They are from the hardcore base of the party. It is terrible out there. Irfaan and Jagdeo know. Many already are beginning to say ‘abe done with this party’, ‘abe nah vote again’, ‘Dem give us an exchange, not even a bottle wash’, ‘Dem nah give abe a piece of fine change, not even a jil fuh abee buy wan sweetie’.
How could President Ali make such terrible appointments? Why is he hurting himself? Why doesn’t he consult with the public before appointing some of these characters? He could do without the controversy especially that he has only a one-seat majority. This misstep can cost him his presidency in a no confidence motion.
Most of the anger is directed against one person. He is well known as the Pradoville man and also as the gold bar man. He did a lot of rotten things…
People are also unhappy with another character who disappeared for five years and is now rewarded with a UN appointment. Loyalists did the ‘dankey work’ and others who did nothing get the rewards. What message is the party sending to supporters and those who gave their life and soul for the party? Would volunteers want to continue to work for this party? What has the gold man and the lady did for the last five years to be recalled? Both should do the honourable thing and decline the appointments.
Yours truly,
Hema Lokenauth
