The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is currently making every effort to ensure that each Region has adequate water supplies as the company works to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Speaking at a press conference held at the company’s Vlissengen Road, Georgetown head office, its Managing Director, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles, said that “water is a critical part of public health precautions for the prevention of COVID-19.”
He added that GWI has sought to ensure that the production of water across the country is adequate to allow public health practices such as hand washing.
To this end, all of the Corporation’s Directors have been dispatched to the country’s 10 administrative regions to ensure the smooth flow of business and to ensure that adequate staff is present at each location.
The Director explained that in-house, all of the GWI’s offices have been equipped with the necessary sanitary items such as disinfectant, sanitizers, etc.
Additionally, sinks are being installed at all of the GWI’s offices and the company’s staffers are being given the opportunity to work from home where applicable. Staff with young children are also given time off to ensure that their children are well taken care of during this health crisis.
Special efforts are also being made to ensure that all four quarantine centres set up by the Ministry of Public Health are supplied with the sufficient water supply.
Dr. Van West-Charles is also pleading with the public to make timely payments on their water bills to assist the company in effectively carrying out its mandate.
GWI is also catering for individuals who are practicing social distancing by offering E-Billing services, online support such as live chat support on its website www.gwi.gy and WhatsApp messaging via telephone number 620-1667. Customers can also download the Customer Service App which allows them to make reports, pay bills, etc, online.
GWI is also conducting public sensitisation through educational posters.
