The highly anticipated Golden Republic T20 Bash just gathered significant momentum with the naming of the sides to go head to head in the feature clash at the Guyana National Stadium on Friday February 21 from 6 PM.
In addition to captains Sherfane Rutherford and Shimron Hetmyer, for Rutherford Renegades and Hetmyer Hurricanes respectively there are a number of other international and Caribbean Premier League (CPL) stars that should give good account of themselves as Guyana celebrates 50 years as a Republic nation this year.
The Hurricanes have picked Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons, former West Indies T20 all-rounder Christopher Barnwell, West Indies Under-19 World Cup 2020 players Kevlon Anderson and Ashmead Nedd and impressive rookie fast bowler Nial Smith, while West Indies opener Chandrapaul Hemraj, West Indies B captain Anthony Bramble, all-rounders Rayad Emrit, Raymon Reifer and current Jaguars captain Leon Johnson will take the field for the Renegades.
On February 23, 1970 Guyana became a Co-operative Republic and the match is part of a doubleheader to observe the nation’s golden jubilee. At 2 PM national champions Regal All-Stars will take on their archrivals Ariel Speed Boat in a softball match to get things going in what is expected an electric atmosphere.
The day’s event is organized by the Ministry of the Presidency Department of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport in collaboration with the Guyana Cricket Board. Tickets are on sale at the Guyana Cricket Board office at Regent road Bourda for $2,000 for any stand and vehicle parking passes are $1,000 each.
