Canje man dies days after setting himself ablaze
Thirty-nine-year-old Chandlall Verian, called “Fine Man”, of Canefield Village, East Canje, succumbed to injuries, which he inflicted upon himself just six days ago.

In the bizarre incident, Chandlall reportedly was under the influence of alcohol when he set himself on fire Monday morning at his Canefield residence.
He was hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital with severe burns about his body. He succumbed Friday morning while receiving treatment.
According to reports, Chandlall who is in the habit of threatening to commit suicide, lit himself on fire. He had on Sunday, prior to the Monday incident also threatened to commit the act. After the act was committed, neighbours and relatives were alerted and he was immediately rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital and was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Kaieteur News understands that his relatives only reported the matter on Friday. Police have since launched an investigation.
