Guymine defeat Police to join 15 other teams in playoff
-Rose Hall Town Tigers advance to Quarterfinals
The Berbice Cricket Board is pushing ahead with its plan to complete the ninety teams New Building Society 40 overs Second Division Tournament by the end of February. The tournament involved the teams advancing to the playoffs. Guymine was the latest team to the reach the playoffs with three wickets victory over Police. Meanwhile, Rose Hall Town Tigers have already advanced to the Quarter finals after they crushed Chesney by ten wickets at the Jai Hind Ground in the lone playoff match to be played to date.
Guymine bowled out Police for 80 runs in 20 overs with Kedar Amsterdam top scoring with 25. Keshan Ramsarran 5 for 27, Joel Seitram 4 for 16 and Gregory Crandon 1 for 1 were the wicket takers for Guymine. In reply, Guymine reached 81 for 7 in fifteen overs with Seitram and Ramsarran returning with the bat to score 19 and 16 respectively.
At the Jai Hind Ground, Rose Hall Tigers crushed Chesney by ten wickets in a match reduced to 20 overs due to overnight rain. Former national 20/20 Player Imran Khan smashed 68 which include three boundaries and seven maximums to lead Chesney to 147 for 3 from their allotted overs. S. Gajnabi not out 34 and Ricky Amoi 20 not out offered support to Khan. In return former national youth players Balchand Baldeo and Khemraj Mahadeo led their team to victory by putting on 148 without loss in just 12.2 overs. Baldeo blasted seven sixes and six boundaries in the small ground to be unbeaten on 86, while Mahadeo was also undefeated on 39 including two sweetly timed boundaries and two huge maximums.
Meanwhile, after meeting with clubs in Zone three and Zone sixteen, the BCB has declared that Cotton Tree Cotton Tree and No 48 Challengers as winners of the Zone respectively based on net run-rate.
Sixteen of the nineteen Zones have already had winners declared, while the remaining three would be decided shortly. The winners are Zone 1-Blairmont, Zone 2-D Edward, Zone 3-Cotton Tree, Zone 4-Tucber Park, Zone 5- to be declared, Zone 6-Guymine, Zone 7-to be decided, Zone 8-RH Tigers, Zone 9-To be decided, Zone 10-Chesney, Zone 11, Albion CC, Zone 12-Belvedere-CC, Zone 13-Fyrish CC, Zone 14-Skeldon CC, Zone 15-Cut and Load CC, Zone 16-No 48 Challengers CC, Zone 17-Bomb Squad, Zone 18-No 64 Fighting Marine, Zone 19-No 70 Spartans.
