Santos maul Black Pearl to set up quarter final date with GFC on Sunday
The Third annual Turbo Knockout football tournament which commenced in 2019 with 10 teams resumed on Wednesday evening last at the Ministry of Education (MoE) ground, Carifesta Avenue with the final round-of-16 match between Santos Under-20 and Black Pearl.

This Santos FC player is on the attack against Black Pearl on Wednesday night at the Ministry of Education ground.
The Santos youths, fresh off some stellar performances in recent tournaments weren’t deterred by the break in the Guyana Beverages Inc. sponsored tournament which was due majorly to rains and clashes with other events and it was business as usual as they steamrolled fellow city side Black Pearl 8-0 under lights.
Brandon Soloman continued his top goal scoring form by registering a hat-trick to lead the scoring for his side in the rout. Also on the score sheet was Stephan Reynolds with a first half brace while Kevin Mullin, Orin Moore and M. Stoll netted one each to guide their side into the quarterfinals and keep their dream alive of cashing in on the $400,000 grand cash prize.
Santos will now clash with Georgetown Football Club (GFC) in the feature last-eight match on Sunday night at the same venue from 21:00hrs. GFC, which has not won a senior title in decades, came agonisingly close in the second edition after Northern Rangers were led by solitary strikes from their fleet-footed Captain Stephan Reynolds and Nigel Denny in a come from behind win.
Sunday’s opening match will see Riddim Squad matching skills with Northern Rangers. However, quarterfinal action begins tonight at the same venue commencing at 19:00hrs when West Demerara’s Pouderoyen will clash with Buxton Under-20 while the East Coast Demerara’s Buxton Stars will be pitted against the dangerous Fruta Conquerors Under-20s.
